What does "online presence" actually mean?
Your online presence is everything a person encounters when they search for your business or your name. That includes your website, Google Business Profile, directory listings, social media profiles, reviews, and — increasingly — what AI search engines say about you. It's the sum of every digital touchpoint where someone might form an impression before they contact you.
What should you fix first?
Fix the static before you add more noise. "Static" is our term for the things that are actively creating confusion or doubt: wrong phone numbers, outdated addresses, a Google profile that says you're closed, a website that doesn't say what you do. These problems don't need more content — they need corrections. Until the static is fixed, every other marketing effort is building on a broken foundation.
Do I need to be on every social media platform?
No. Being on a platform you don't maintain is worse than not being there at all. An abandoned Facebook page with no posts since 2023 tells prospects you might be out of business. Pick the one or two platforms where your customers actually spend time, maintain them consistently, and skip the rest. For most local businesses, Google Business Profile matters more than any social platform.
How important is my website?
Critical — but not for the reasons most people think. Your website doesn't need to be flashy or expensive. It needs to clearly answer three questions within two seconds: what you do, where you do it, and how to contact you. Every page should have one clear action you want the visitor to take. If your website doesn't do these things, it's actively hurting you.
Where do I go from here?
