Why Online Reviews Matter More Than You Think
If you think online reviews are just about ego, think again. Reviews are one of the top three ranking factors for local search, and they're increasingly what AI assistants use to decide which businesses to recommend.
The Numbers
93% of consumers say online reviews impact their purchasing decisions. 72% won't take action until they've read reviews. And businesses with fewer than 10 reviews might as well be invisible in many local searches.
Recency Matters
A business with 200 reviews that are all 2 years old looks abandoned. Google weights recent reviews more heavily. Aim for a steady flow — 2-4 new reviews per month is a healthy pace for most local businesses.
How to Get More Reviews (Ethically)
The simplest strategy: ask. After completing a job or service, ask your happy clients to leave a Google review. Make it easy — send them a direct link. Don't offer incentives (Google prohibits it), but do make the ask a natural part of your workflow.
Responding to Negative Reviews
Negative reviews aren't the end of the world — how you respond to them often matters more than the review itself. Stay professional, acknowledge the issue, offer to make it right, and take the conversation offline. Future customers are watching how you handle problems.
